We've all heard the saying that "happiness breeds success" but
how can you create happiness in order to be successful? According
to Dr Martin Seligman in the US and Professor Tim Sharp (aka Dr
Happy) there is a science to happiness. The ROTN was lucky enough
to have Dr Happy as a guest host of a webinar where
he shared his ideas on Happiness and Positive
Psychology in the Classroom. You can view in the Professional Development
section of the ROTN website.
Over the coming weeks the ABC is screening a new documentary series
titled "Making Australia
Happy" in which the film makers set out to truly road test the
"science of happiness". They have chosen eight volunteers from
eight walks of life. They all live within the Inner Western Sydney
area but are unknown to each other. The group of volunteers
represents a range of ages, backgrounds and life circumstances.
What they shared in common was the desire to get happy. This series
could provide a great stimulus for teachers who are looking for
ideas for interesting and engaging lessons as you move towards the
end of the year.
To help teachers out the RO Teachers Network has put together some
resources to help
you explore some of the issues in the Make Australia Happy series
as well as some lesson ideas to
help you to boost the happiness of your students.
Have you implemented any strategies with your classes to boost
their mood? We'd love to hear how you have used positive psychology
techniques in your classroom. Share your ideas in the comments
section below. Go on .... Join the discussion now!
