Sex and sexuality

Getting and staying comfortable with their bodies and accepting their sexuality is a huge part of the lives of young people, and it affects their mental state in more ways than they can sometimes explain.

Sexuality is much more than sex. It is a major part of a person and a clear determining factor in how they think about themselves.

  • Sexuality is an integral part of life and encompasses sexual behaviour, gender identity, sexual orientation, relationships and reproduction.
  • Sexuality can be experienced and expressed in thoughts, fantasies, desires, beliefs, attitudes, values, behaviours, practices, roles and relationships.
  • The experience of human sexuality is influenced by the interaction of biological, psychological, social, economic, political, cultural, ethical, legal, historical, religious and spiritual factors.
  • Sexuality and relationships education is a lifelong process of acquiring information and forming attitudes, beliefs and values about identity, relationships and intimacy
  • Sexuality education addresses the biological, socio-cultural, psychological and spiritual dimensions of sexuality.
