Reach Out Central (ROC) is one of the tools that is available
for young people to use as part of the Reach Out service. Reach Out Central is an
interactive game designed to help young people develop resilience
and positive life skills such as problem-solving, coping,
communication and optimistic thinking.
A stand-alone version of the Reach Out Central
game containing seven scenarios from the online version of the game
has been developed. This stand-alone version of ROC can be accessed
via the Internet to allow teachers to use the scenarios for
specific teaching and learning activities.
When students play ROC, they get to test drive scenarios and
situations and see how their thoughts, feelings and actions can
impact on their relationships, health and wellbeing. Students will
take on the role of a character that is new in town. It will be up
to students to work out how to settle in, make new friends and find
their way around the place. What students will discover is that the
choices they make about friends, partying, work and life can impact
on their wellbeing and relationships.
The Reach Out Teachers Network has developed a Teacher Resource
and Student Self Tracker to support teachers to use ROC in the
classroom.
